Theatre Arts & Opportunities is founded in the knowledge that the arts have the power to change lives. Our mission is to create, support and promote acting and writing programs in senior facilities.
Theatre classes provide opportunities to develop a new set of skills and perform them in the presence of an audience, consisting of friends, family members and colleagues.
Seniors in our communities have more than earned the right to be seen and heard. The students are dedicated and hard-working. The classes are full of laughs and camaraderie. The wisdom and experience that seniors bring to the class are valuable assets that should be shared.
Our program originated by working with DOC facilities, as a way to provide participants with a setting where they could learn to express themselves through the discipline of writing and performing while developing collaboration, cooperation and self-expression skills.
While we continue to work with those returning to their communities following a period of incarceration, along with our youth theatre students, over time our program has taken a new course which led to our current focus of working with the senior members of our community.
